IMG_2211IMG_2162Penn Branch neighbors are taking to the street to dig themselves out and help their neighbors dig out from this weeks historic snowfall.   We are asking neighbors to help clear the streets and to pay special attention to our seniors citizens, ill, and those without the resources to shovel in their driveways and sidewalks.

If you have snow machine or other equipment, reach out to us a [email protected] or call (202) 669-3974 so that we can help others in Penn Branch and neighboring areas who need help.

DDOT and the mayors office are working hard to clear streets and address issues from the snowstorm.

We need your help!  We are coordinating to help residents in Penn Brach and Ward 7 dig out and address urgent issues as the result of the snow storm.  Our efforts are in addition major efforts by city agencies that have been working around the clock to assist residents and provide services.

We NEED as soon as possible

  1. Volunteers to help dig out residents with critical needs and those who are unable.
  2. Anyone who is able to travel to the Reeves Center to work as part of a Ward 7 efforts
  3. Help identifying Penn Branch and Ward 7 residents who need to be a priority (ill , without electric or heat or without adequate resources)
  4. Help identifying streets that are unplowed (understand that major streets are a priority)
  5. If you have electric/gas snow blowers and tools to assist neighbors with urgent needs
  6. Shoveling out are fire hydrants
  7. Identify any other major issues

A Ali 10-12-15Akosua Ali, Penn Branch resident and NAACP DC Branch President, was one of the guest speakers at the Saturday, October 11, 2015 JUSTICE OR ELSE! rally that was held on the Washington Mall on the 20th Anniversary of the Million Man March.  Ali addressed the crowd emphasizing the need to stand together to demand equality and justice.  Ali has also been a guest speaker at our Penn Branch Civic Citizens Association meetings.  The purpose of the JUSTICE OR ELSE! Rally was to demand change and commit to working together for justice for every individual regardless of their race, socioeconomic status, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or immigration status.

Ali is now busy planning for the NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner which takes place November 4, 7:00 pm at the Washington, Hilton Hotel.  Speakers will include NAACP President and CEO Reverend, Cornell Brooks, Esq.

Penn Branch Residents Launch Business Ventures

Escape the Oval Office located at 1322B, H Street NE, second floor and Urban Grown Veggies are just a few of the businesses owned and operated by Penn Branch residents located in Ward 7.    Business owners, friends, relatives, and customers gathered on Saturday, October, 17 at a reception held at the recently opened Escape the Oval Office, which is owned by Ayana Canty and Tim Smith.   Attendees welcomed the launch of Urban Grown Veggies by Lisa and Darrell Baker.  

Master gardener Lisa Baker,  who also launched the You Tube video series Lisa and Bean Stalk, offers consulting services and tips to healthy eating and a sustainable city garden that could reduce your food costs, feed your family, and teach healthy values and gardening skills.    12079416_969624529745558_4041050629141406199_n-1 12088198_726262430839374_8993541983081537329_n

Escape the Oval Office offers more than some of the ‘escape’ rooms that have been emerging nationwide.  In addition to the well-planned escape room, there are class rooms equipped for educational activities.  The two floor layout, which is also includes a well-laid out reception room, is perfect for team building and group activities.   Attendees included, Ward 7, Councilwoman Yvette Alexander, Penn Branch President, Jimmie Williams, many Penn Branchers and lots of families and children.
