Residents who receive the Department of Public Works’ (DPW) recycling collection, PLEASE be aware that plastic bags and plastic wraps will no longer be accepted in the District of Columbia’s residential curbside recycling program. On a daily basis, these items clog and shutdown machinery used for screening and processing of products received at local recycling facilities.
Soon, residents will receive a post card detailing the types of plastic bags and warps not accepted for curbside single stream residential recycling. While DPW will no longer collect these items as a part of your recycling collection, most supermarkets and large retailers have plastic shopping bag return/recycling bin in their stores.
